Abram (Abe) Klassen
December 14, 1926 - April 15, 2021
Tribute
Abe was born on December 14, 1926 near Winkler, Manitoba. His parents were Julius and Elizabeth (Grunau) Klassen. He grew up with 4 brothers and 4 sisters, George, Henry, Nettie, Betty, Cornie, Helen, John and Marlene. He was predeceased by his parents and 7 siblings, and is survived by his brother Henry in Simcoe, Ontario.
Abe moved to Vancouver, BC in 1953 to “go west young man”. He found a job with BC Transit and loved being a bus driver for 36 years, until he retired at age of 65. Abe married Mary Enns on July 23, 1955. He had one son Jim, and two daughters, Andrea (Darren) and Janet (Colin), and one granddaughter Zoe Klassen.
Abe had many interests, including puttering in his workshop, gardening, fixing cars, driving on long road trips, and playing cards. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, hockey player, and golfer. If the sun was out, Abe would be sure to bask in it, shirt off, never mind the temperature. He was loved by friends and family, and knew how to make them laugh and smile.
As well, he was a thrill seeker, taking a hang gliding flight, paragliding tandem off Grouse Mountain, and a sailplane flight in Pemberton for his 80th birthday. He also waterskied until he was 80 years old.
On April 15, 2021 Abe passed away peacefully at Tabor Home in Abbotsford, BC. He will be missed so much by family and many friends.
Donations in lieu of flowers to M.C.C. would be appreciated.
