Aganeta (Agnes) Janzen (Janzen)
September 3, 1946 - December 5, 2025
Tribute
Aganeta, or Agnes to those who knew her, was born in Friesland, Paraguay to Helena and Peter Janzen on September 3, 1946. She grew up in the Colony, going to school until sixth grade and being part of the MB Church there. Her faith became a big part of her life and she attended youth and various events while working as a housekeeper and nanny. During those years she met Edwin Janzen at a youth meeting. They married some time later and 9 months after that they welcomed their daughter Hermine. Three years after that they welcomed a son, Raymond. About eighteen months later, with hopes and dreams of a different future for themselves and their children, they moved to Canada. They landed in Ontario in March of 1972 and discovered the joy of snow. They stayed with family for approximately a week and then headed west to Vancouver. Agnes’ parents were already there, so it was a good place to settle down and raise their children. They were blessed and able to purchase a home in 1973. Agnes continued her work as a private housekeeper.
They returned to Paraguay in 1978 to visit family and friends. In 1979 they decided to tear down their home and build something new. Along with changing her home, Agnes also changed her job, taking on employment at the German Canadian Care Home. She worked there as a general housekeeper and took care of laundry. She continued her work there while raising her children and growing her faith as part of the Culloden MB Church congregation. Agnes retired in 1998. She and Dad were an energetic couple and retirement did not hold them back. Agnes became an avid volunteer, both at home and abroad. She and Edwin joining DMI to go on 18 different mission trips to various countries. Her desire to spread the love of Jesus and help anyone in need was the center of her life. While at home she volunteered with Gleaners and YVR. Agnes kept on volunteering if her body allowed, but the last couple years were difficult. Plagued with discomfort and decreasing exercise tolerance she did the best she could until the Lord called her home. While it’s sad for those of us left behind, it is a time of joy and celebration for her. So, today we are not saying goodbye but rather, see you soon.
