Alan Chattaway

Tribute
Alan T. Chattaway passed away February 21st, 2017 at the age of 71. He will be remembered for his computer programming, his teaching, his brilliant repairs, and for always standing up for causes he believed in, from his participation in anti-apartheid protests as a university student in South Africa to his more recent involvement in Canadian politics. He is survived by his wife Katharina; his children Peter, Monica, Paul, and Michelle; and his grandchildren Maija, Elizabeth, Thomas, Nicholas, and River. His life will be honoured Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Christian Church in North Delta. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Autism Society of BC would be appreciated.

Living for a few months in Burnaby on Mar. Drive in 1984, on leave from Nigeria, my son and I were just getting into computers via that venerable Osborne “sewing machine.” We joined the Osborne club, where we met up with Alan. We so remember his patient teaching us some basic procedures on an avant garde machine and subsequent visits to the Chattaway home. Alan was a blessing to both of us whom we never forgot, even though we seldom reconnected when we moved to Vancouver permanently 17 years later. We have used those skills every day and my son ended up working for Yahoo in Silicon Valley and is now a computer guru. Thank you Alan. Enjoy the comforts of the bosom of Abraham and his Father.

My condolences to Katharina, and Alan’s Children and Grandchildren. Alan and I both were volunteers at Missions Fest in recent years, and I have fond memories of serving along side such a gentle and kind friend.
