Tribute

Our dear husband, Dad and Opa passed away peacefully on February 11, 2018. He was surrounded by family and is now safe in the arms of his Lord.  Albert was born in Sassenheim, Holland, one of 11 children.   He immigrated to Canada in 1953, following his love Nellie.  They married in 1956 and settled in the Abbotsford area.  Albert loved gardening, fishing and socializing with friends and neighbours.  He was a Canuck fan to the end. He had unending faith in God and love for his family and others.  Besides his hard work ethic, he always found time to volunteer; as a cancer driver, citizens patrol member, long time blood donor and in many church activities.  His smile and sense of humour were endless and he never turned down an afternoon beer or rum.   He is survived by and will be missed by his wife Nellie and children Mary-Anne (Mac), Teresa (Dave), Al (Nida), Wes (Gretchen) and Lisa.  He leaves 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, as well as a large extended family in Holland.    Many thanks to the staff at Christine Morrison Hospice whose amazing and kind care of Albert and the family helped us all through this difficult time.

God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day,

And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray;

When in the Lord’s safe landing net I’m peacefully asleep,

That in his mercy I be judged as good enough to keep.
