Tribute

It is with extreme sadness that the family of Alfred Stanley Barker Jr. announces his passing on December 20, 2022.  >> Stanley is lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years Lorraine, their children  Cathy (Jan-Bart), Stanley (Monieke), Gregory (Teresa) and siblings Julian, Hugh John (Susan), Rosemary (David), Robin (Wendy), and Richard (Janet) and brother-in-law Richard Hughes and sister-in-law Rachael (Bill) Dawson. He will be dearly missed by his 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and extended family.  Stanley studied Math and Physics at U.B.C. followed by post graduate studies at the University of  California at Berkeley where he achieved his PhD. He was then employed by the Bell Telephone Research Facility at Murray Hill in New Jersey where he joined in the efforts to create the first working transistor and the first American Satellite Telstar.   Returning to Canada Stanley and Lorraine with their growing family moved to the Fraser Valley  where he taught Math and Physics at Simon Fraser University and then at Trinity Western University as head of the Physics Faculty.  Following Stanley’s retirement he and Lorraine moved to Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast. It was there that family and friends gathered for swimming, boating, and fabulous cookouts and the annual sailboat races which were a major summer event.

A Celebration of Life will be held later in the Spring with the date to be announced.
