Tribute
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Allison “Allie” Leslie van Leeuwen on Monday, November 16, 2020.
Allie left us peacefully at Holmberg House Hospice with her parents Leo and Linda by her side after having one last sleepover with her big sister Melanie.
Allie was born February 6, 1978 in Chilliwack, BC where she lived at her parents home until 2002 when she moved to Eleanor House in Abbotsford, BC.
Allie enjoyed going out for car rides and dining out in various restaurants as well as trips to local parks. She will be missed by her roommates Helen, Ryan, and Chris and all of her Caregivers at Eleanor House, as well as various friends she met through H.O.M.E.S. Society in Abbotsford.
Allie leaves behind her parents, Leo and Linda van Leeuwen, and her big sister Melanie van Leeuwen as well as her extended family.
Highlights in Allie’s life were visits home to her parents in Chilliwack for dinner as well as her weekly Subway lunches with her mom in Chilliwack. Allie would leap excitedly out of her chair to get into Melanie’s car to go for the visit home. Allie spent her spare time tying knots in her collection of strings, listening to music, and making her duck noises. Allie was easily recognized in the community by her “Allie, Allie, Allie’s”.
Many thanks go to the doctors and nursing staff in the various wards at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, Holmberg House Hospice, as well as to the Caregivers at Eleanor House for the care and attention they provided to Allie.
In light of the current pandemic, no memorial service is planned at this time. In future we hope to have a gathering to remember the light that Allie brought to us all.
