Alvina Alma Schmidt (Hiebner)

Tribute
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Alvina Schmidt on March 2, 2018 at age 89.
Alvina was born in Hay Lakes, Alberta in 1929 to Paul and Eda Hiebner, one of 8 children who grew up on the family farm. Alvina attended Hillcrest Christian College in Medicine Hat, Alberta and moved to Chilliwack in 1949. In 1954, Alvina married Reinhold Schmidt and they had two children, Paul and Martha.
Alvina’s life was centred around her strong Christian faith and she was always actively involved in her church, teaching, leading and helping wherever she could. Alvina was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and lived an exemplary, selfless life. A time after Reinhold’s death in 1997, Alvina remarried to Trevor Hensman and the two of them lived in Richmond, where they were very much involved in church ministries with Seniors and High School Youth until differing health care needs required Alvina to return to Chilliwack. In 2014, Alvina moved to Hallmark on the Lake Seniors Home in Abbotsford.
Alvina will be very deeply missed and always remembered by her son Paul (Heather) and children Rachel, Steven (Jenna), Andrew and Mark and daughter Martha (Fred) and their children Rebecca, Ryan, Ben and Brendan (Cassidy). Alvina’s funeral will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 12:30pm, at Cross Connection Church, 9310 Williams St., Chilliwack.

Hello Martha and Paul and families — I’m a face from your past –Elaine Dobertein Tonn. I want to express my condolences on the passing of your wonderful mom. I have such fond memories of her and your dad. Some of my fondest memories of our time in Chilliwack, was being invited to your home after church on Sundays! I realize we probably didn’t clean up like we should have. Sorry about that 🙂 Your mom was a great example of a godly woman, who always had a kind word and smile for me. My prayers for all of you!
