Anke (Annie) Mayer (Kuipers)

July 28, 1932 - February 20, 2026

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Annie Mayer, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother at the age of 93.  She leaves behind the love of her life of 70 years, Anton (Tony) Mayer.

Annie was born in a small town Dantumawoulde, Holland, and living thru the war from the age of 12, eventually got on the boat in 1953 with her parents and siblings to Montreal,Canada taking the train for 4 days to get to New Westminster, Unke Sipke picking them up and landing in Ladner, BC. Annie became a Nanny where she self-taught English. Later going to the Alpine Club in Vancouver with her sisters she met Tony and a year later married him.

Thus began the life of bearing 6 children, moving from Vancouver to Cloverdale, then to Aldergrove on a farm and eventually to Rosedale and settling in Abbotsford. Thru the years of raising the children while building/renovating houses, raising farm animals, managing a large veggie garden, and endless amounts of laundry, Annie always had food on the table for Tony and the kids. She also enjoyed the love of flowers, gardening, dancing at the Legion, watching the boys play hockey, playing cards and having fun with her own sisters and brothers whenever they got together.

When Tony retired they travelled thru every side road there was in BC amongst other places and could still remember every street and lake name they so enjoyed visiting together. Minter Gardens was visited a tremendous amount with Annie taking endless pictures of the beautiful flowers she so loved.  Gardening was a passion. Annie loved sending memorable pictures to all her family and friends whenever something new happened.

For all those lives that Annie has touched, there will be a celebration of life in the summertime, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and share the love we all had for Annie.

You will be deeply missed, always loved and never forgotten.
