Anna Unruh (Harder)

May 29, 1924 - April 1, 2021

Tribute

Anna Unruh passed away on April 1, 2021at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, in 2001.

She will be missed by her family Henry (Irene}, Sylvia (Harold}, Elly (Gerald}, Lynn (Gordon}, her 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. But we rejoice with her that she celebrated Easter in heaven and was reunited with her loved ones there. She was the youngest of 9 children and the last of all her siblings to move on to heaven.

Mom was a consistent example to us of faith, hard work, and a positive outlook on life. She fled her village of Neuendorf with her mother and survived the trek through refugee and immigration camps during WWII. She immigrated first to the United States where she again had to be strong and resilient for herself and her mother. She learned the English language and worked in a factory in Lancaster, Pennsylvania .

In 1954 our Dad was able to call her over as his bride. They bought a farm on Gladwin Road in Abbotsford, B.C. and there they raised their four children. It was a good life on the chicken and raspberry farm. They worked hard to make ends meet, and even though they may have struggled financially in the early years, there was always food on the table and a strong loving home.

When they moved off the farm, they builtĀ  “the house on the hill”. They loved having their children and grandchildren over. Omi will always be remembered for her cookies and jam.

After Dad passed away in 2001, Mom again had to be strong in order to carry on. She moved to Garden Park Tower and filled her days with volunteering at MCC and the Garden Park Kitchen.

When Mom’s memory started failing her too much, she moved to Terrace East. The last two weeks of her life that were more difficult she spent at Henry and Irene’s home and the hospital. From there she made her final move to heaven. We celebrate that she is made whole again.
