ARLENE THEODORA BERRY 1941-2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Berry on January 23, 2018 in Abbotsford, BC. After a lengthy illness, she passed away peacefully with her loving and devoted husband Al by her side.  Arlene (Hunter) Berry was born April 28, 1941 in Alberta, the daughter of the late Theodore (Ted) and Sarah Hunter. She was raised on their family farm near Edwell, Alberta and always loved sharing stories of life on the farm. Arlene always had a smile for everyone and loved a good game and a good laugh. She was very proud of her many years spent working for the Hudson Bay Company at several locations. Over the years, Arlene lived in many places throughout Alberta and BC , but most of all she treasured her memories of time spent at their winter home in Arizona, where she will be missed by many friends. She was also active in the First Baptist Church of Sun Lakes in Sun Lakes, AZ, and Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, BC.  Arlene was known for her positive attitude, her independence and her willingness to lend a hand. Arlene loved her Edmonton Oilers and was able to be there for many of their biggest moments in the 80’s, and her fiery passion showed most when her team was playing. Arlene loved music and loved to sing and in her last years it was the music that gave us the ability to connect with her. She maintained a happiness that shone through her entire illness. 

She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 36 years, Albert (Al) W. Berry who provided such amazing care for her through her final years. She leaves behind a beloved daughter Valerie (Johanson) Lester (Ed) of Red Deer, AB. She loved her five grandchildren dearly and will be missed by Tyler and Sara Lester of Red Deer, AB, as well as Ryan, Jared and William Berry of Hillsborough, NB. She also will be deeply missed by her stepchildren, Kevin Berry (Brenda) of Hillsborough, NB and Kenda Berry (Eric Lavoie) of Saint-Édouard-de-Kent, NB, as well as her sister Loretta (Bunny) Burling (Wayne) of Okotoks, AB, and many special nieces and nephews.    

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Charles (Chuck) Johanson.

 There will be no visiting hours or funeral, but celebrations of life will take place with family and friends at later dates.  For those who choose to make a memorial in Arlene’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC would be greatly appreciated.  The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and residents at MSA Manor and several special friends for the care given to Arlene (and to Al). The support and kindness shown was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
