Joseph Arthur Raymond McCaughan
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, pastor and friend. He was born in Winnipeg to Joseph and Gertrude McCaughan, the 11th of 16 children. To Art a stranger was just a friend that he hadn’t met yet. He loved life and was a true “people person”, always ready for a song, a dance or a game of cards. He served as pastor to many congregations across Western Canada since his call to the ministry.
Art passed away peacefully at Abbotsford Hospital on Wednesday, August 19. His beloved wife, Ann, of 59 years predeceased him in October 2019. He leaves to mourn daughters Nancy McCaughan (Andre Plante), Lori Maurer, Barbara Schneider, and granddaughter (honorary daughter) Kathleen Marusiak (Andy); grandchildren Leanne Adams, Derek Maurer (Ashley), Holly Sebastian (Steven), Robin Plante (Holly), Chantal Lauweryssen (Ben), Yvonne Schneider, and Matthew Schneider; great-grandchildren Marie, Samantha, Owen, Emmet, Ruby, Declan, Emily, and Cirilla. He is survived by his sisters Joyce and Joanne of Winnipeg.
A celebration of Art’s life will be held at Matsqui Lutheran Church, Matsqui BC, on August 25 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers we ask a donation to Matsqui Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the BC Cancer Clinic – Abbotsford.

Nancy, Lori,Barbara and families:I am so sorry for the hole in your hearts that Art’s passing has left. I met Art(Ann and the girls) over 50 years ago. He became my brother in law. He was warm and oh so funny,and such a teaser. You could see a twinkle in his eyes when he was thinking of a joke to tell. He and Ann became my daughters God parents and many years later he officiated her marriage. He was such a people person and so loved singing. The years passed and family dynamics change, but he always was welcoming when ever we met. He is joyously singing in God’ s choir and reunited with Ann. Healing hugs and happy memories to y ou all.

Relation: Met Ann and Art while they were in Regina many years ago.
Barb and family ::Our sincerest condolences on the passing of Art. We really enjoyed him and Ann during the time they were in Regina. We had the pleasure of their company after they moved and when they stopped in Regina. Ann and I enjoyed beating them in cards. I still like using his favourite saying. “Oh forever more!”.

We at Earl Grey Christ Lutheran congregation are sad to hear of the passing of Pastor McCaughan. It was a pleasure to have him as a pastor from 1983-1987. Many happy memories of when he served our congregation. He made the choir come to life! Needless to say he even performed in some of the community dinner theatres. He was certainly missed when the family left our small community and congregation.
