Barbara Ann Guppy (Fritz)

January 1, 1936 - February 14, 2023

Tribute

In loving memory and deep sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Guppy into the presence of her Lord and Savior.  Mom passed peacefully with her family by her side on February 14th 2023.
Barb will be greatly missed by her loving husband Robert of 63 years and her children:  Gayle (Brian) and Michael (Nancy).  Loving grandmother to Mariah, Zachary, Scott, Brian and Bryce and 3 great grandsons: Jackson, Josiah and Beck.
Predeceased by her parents Emil and Pearl Fritz, brothers George, Earl and Ralph and sister June.
Barb was a military wife so moving every couple of years became normal for her.  She made a home for her family in 7 different places, including Belgium and Germany,  over a period of 17 years until her husband retired in 1977.  The family settled in Abbotsford BC because mom fell in love with the mountains that surround the Fraser Valley.
Barb returned to the work force after years of being a stay at home mom.  Mom was passionate about her Catholic faith which led her to volunteer at Birthright and then served on the executive for St. Ann’s Catholic Women’s League from 1983-1990.  Once dad retired from the School District in 1998, the pair were off travelling and spending quality time with their grandkids.
On March 17th 2018, mom had a massive stroke which left her paralyzed on the right side of her body. After 7 weeks in hospital mom came home and learned to adjust to a new way of life. Throughout this journey her faith never faltered.  Over the next 4 1/2 years her condition worsened and required her to enter a long term care facility on December 8th 2022, where she passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on February 14th 2023.
Funeral service will be held at St. James Catholic Church 2777 Townline Road, Abbotsford at 11:00 am on Thursday,  February 23, 2023.  Reception to follow in the church foyer. Interment to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.
If you are not able to attend the service, you will be able to view it via live stream.
