Tribute
On Sunday, March 18, 2018, Berend (Bert) Huberts passed away peacefully while a resident at Menno Home. Bert is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Geertje (Gé) and his children, John (Elsa), Al (Louise), Wilma (Gerrard), Don (Betty-Ann), Rob (Lori) and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Doreen on March 23, 1968, his grandson Jason, April 15, 2012 and his twin brother and only sibling, Douwe, December 18, 2012 in the Netherlands. Bert was born in Leek, Groningen, Netherlands on March 27, 1930 and married Gé deWit on July 2, 1952. The following year they immigrated to Canada, arriving in Halifax, Pier 21 and then on to British Columbia. Bert and Gé raised six children while living and working in Surrey and Langley. They focused on their faith and family. Bert owned a variety of businesses including a nursery and Huberts & Son Construction Ltd.During their retirement years, Bert and Gé spent much time traveling, enjoying friendships, staying at their Harrison Lake retreat and being with their children and grandchildren.
Please join the family to honour Bert’s life on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Menno Home Chapel at 32910 Brundige Avenue, Abbotsford. All are welcome to attend, with reception to follow immediately after the service.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the Menno Home community for their devoted care of Bert in both East 1 and West 2 wards.
