Bernadette Ann Bentley (Atchison)

May 28, 1936 – August 13, 2022

Born in Cranbrook, B.C.

Mom was my rock, my guardian angel, my advisor, historian, companion and best friend. She was a lover of nature, sunshine and crossword puzzles. Mom worked hard most of her life. She raised 4 children working and farming all at the same time. She worked in the health care field for many years and loved her job. Thank you mom for all the selfless years you gave us.

Mom leaves behind 1 brother and 2 sisters. Bill Atchison, Jyll Miller (Atchison) and Heather Chambers (Atchison), a brother-in law, Tom and a cousin, Daryl Henry.  4 Children Rory Bentley, John Derek (Teri) Bentley, Lynda Bentley and Karen Visco (Bentley) and son in law Brad.  6 Grandchildren Katie Siemens (Visco) & husband Mark, Hailey de Jong (Visco) & husband Cody, Catesa Bentley/Marcel Koopmans, Lindsey, Megan and Danny Bentley.  9 Great grandchildren Kala Kerr, Joab, Asher, Sarah and Rachel Siemens, Ethan and Caleb de Jong, Landen and Denver Jackson.  Mom also leaves behind many nephews and nieces.

My sister Bernadette is gone and there isn’t a dam thing I can do about it except remember what an exemplary person she was. Her fight for life in later years will remain an inspiration to us all. Bern I raise my glass to you and a life well lived and worthy of praise. I hope you are in the company of Angels where you belong for eternity.

I miss you so much, Bick. I miss your voice, our conversations and your advice. I always looked up to you and admired the beautiful woman and sister that you were. Our family get-togethers were more fun when you were there. Your great laugh and sense of humor will be missed. I’m glad we were able to visit one last time and hold hands and tell you I love you. My heart breaks that you are gone. Some days I can’t stop the tears. As I say goodbye, please know I will love you always.

Relation: Brother In Law

Bick, I was blessed to have you in my life as a sister-in-law for many years. I always thought of you more as a sister than an in-law. Thanks for putting up with me for all those years. I admired how you handled your role as family Matriarch in style. One of my favorite memories of our family parties was you kissing my ring while I was dressed up as Pope Pompinelli on your 70th birthday. We had a lot of laughs and good times. Loved your laugh and sense of humor and miss your genuine warmth and friendship. So glad we had the chance to say I love you one last time. You are truly missed.

I will miss Aunt Bernadette she was a awesome lady. I have memories of being on the farm with my cousins and the time Mom and Dad and Aunt Bernadette came to Sayward, we had so many laughs. She will be sadly missed.
I hope the love of family and friends will bring you all comfort through such tough times times. You will not be forgotten!

I sit and think about the last time we visited, sitting in the garden having a special brew discussing life and the directions it was heading. We both knew that time was closing in, but you still smiled and laughed. The tears don’t stop. It’s hard to say bye to you mom, the tears just won’t stop. You’re in a good place now, say hi to dad for me and I’ll visit again when it’s time. Loving you mom.
