Tribute
With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mother on April 14, 2020.
May was born in Saskatchewan on Feb. 21, 1933. The family moved to Vancouver when she was a young girl. She married George in 1955. About a year later they bought their house on Fleming St. where they raised their 3 sons. She lived in that same house until the end of her life.
Mom lived a very active life and always liked to be busy. She bowled with a group of ladies every Wednesday morning, and played Rummoli with another group of ladies once a month, both for over 50 years. She and Dad had many good times at their summer home in Birch Bay for 42 years. Together for the last 25 years of married life they travelled extensively seeing a lot of the world. Mom still travelled a bit over the last 5 years, having just returned 4 weeks ago from her spring holiday in Hawaii. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, and in the last year great-grandmother of two boys. She was a fantastic cook. Mom loved life. She was a very caring and compassionate person who loved being around people.
May is survived by her 3 sons David (Chantal), Jack (Laura), and Jimmy, 4 granddaughters Alanna (Danny), Sarah (Eric), Jessica (Dayrl), and Kathryn (Chris), and 2 great-grandsons Charlie and Henry. Also, sister Lorraine Atchison, brother Ron (Joanne) McMahon and sister-in-law Evelyn Shields and many nieces & nephews. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years George Shields, parents Holly & Louise McMahon.
She has been well looked after by Jimmy for the last 5 years for which we are all very grateful.
In lieu of flowers please give an old friend a phone call.
Mom didn’t say goodbye, it was “we’ll love you and leave you”…
Due to the Corona Virus a memorial service will be planned at a later date.
