Cheryl Marie Cummings (Friesen)

August 5, 1962 - January 15, 2021

Tribute

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing wife and mother, Cheryl. Her strength of character and fighting spirit were evident from an early age on throughout her life. Whether she was jumping out of airplanes, riding elephants, or hiking mountains, she was an adventurer, living life to the fullest. As a young woman, she spent years travelling to five continents, immersing herself in other cultures. Cheryl was an avid runner, highlighted by her participation in the Vancouver Marathon, where she may us proud by qualifying for Boston. A hard worker, she ascended from clerk to GIS Technician for the City of Abbotsford, where she worked for 35 years. An incredibly loving and passionately dedicated mother, she devoted so much of herself to her boys, Dylan and Braden. She was giving, selfless, humble, faithful, dependable, and loving; a shining example of how to live life well.

She will be greatly missed by her husband (Darryl), sons (Dylan and Braden), mother (Susie), brothers (Ron and Brian), sister (Val), niece (Melissa), nephew (David) and her dogs (Chili and Pepper). We take comfort in knowing that she is at peace.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Complex Care Unit at Abbotsford Regional for their exceptional care and Dr. Shaikh of the oncology unit for giving us the gift of time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I’m comforted by a deep knowing that Cheryl is still with us, but it still really hurts when I find myself reaching for my phone looking for a text from her. So many memories that I treasure. Cheryl was by my side when I met my husband, and I was with her when she met hers. I will miss our girl’s weekends terribly and the excitement of planning our family vacations together. It has always felt good knowing that I had a special friend in this world who understood me and my flaws, and still loved me anyway. To Darryl, Dylan and Braden and all of Cheryl’s grieving family, I will keep you close to my heart as you are now and forever family to me too. With profound love and sympathy XOXOX

Dale & I were very saddened to hear of Cheryl’s passing
To Darryl, Dylan & Braden we offer our deepest condolences during this difficult time. I worked with Cheryl for 27 years for the City of Abbotsford-Geomatics Division. I truly enjoyed our many long talks – so insightful & often times humorous. She was a very lively & energetic person very much a free spirit & wonderful mother. We had a lot of good times. She will be greatly missed & I feel lucky to have known her. May she rest in peace. Love from Judi Lauer-Zahara – CofA-GIS

Daryl, my heart goes out to you, Dylan & Braden. Cheryl was a true dear friend of mine.
We did many social gatherings & lunches. Talked about our separate lives. I will miss her always. She actually came to my late wife’s & my apartment & cooked dinner for us as my wife was also suffering. She had the biggest heart I’ve ever known anyone to have.
I’ll never forget her, we helped each other often. Always in my heart forever.
R.I.P. Cheryl! XO
