Cornelius (Chuck) Dietrich Wiebe

February 18, 1930 - March 23, 2026

Tribute

Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband, Chuck Wiebe, on March 23, 2026, at the age of 96. While we knew this day would come, his loss is felt profoundly by all of us. When we reflect on his life and the person he was, we are reminded why—he was truly an exceptional man.

Chuck was steady, kind, and principled in everything he did. He carried himself with quiet strength, patience, and integrity, and he approached life with a calmness that never wavered. He did not need to raise his voice to be heard—his presence, his actions, and his consistency spoke for him.

As a husband, he was kind, caring, and unwaveringly supportive. He was married to his late wife, Frances, for 16 years before her passing, and later shared nearly 40 wonderful years with his wife, Christine. Together, Chuck and Christine built a full and meaningful life—enjoying time with their extended families, travelling the world, and creating lasting memories along the way.

As a father, he set an extraordinary example. After the loss of Frances, he took on the role of both parents and guided his family through those formative years with unwavering care and commitment.  He ensured we were supported, provided for, and never without direction, even in the most difficult of circumstances.

He had a unique way of guiding those around him. He did not impose his views, but instead offered thoughtful, practical perspective. He allowed each of us to find our own path, while always being there when we needed support, reassurance, or clarity.  To his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he was a constant source of strength and  wisdom. To many others, he was the same—steady, fair, and deeply respected.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have had him in our lives. The example he set, the values he lived by, and the way he treated others will remain with all of us. His presence will continue to guide us. As we move forward, we will strive to live as he did—often asking ourselves, what would Dad/Chuck/Grampa do, what would he say.

He was not only a good man—he was a great one. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.

A Life Well Lived

Cornelius Dietrich Wiebe was born on February 18, 1930, in Gretna, Manitoba, the fifth of ten children to Dietrich and Justina Wiebe. In 1944, the family moved to Mt. Lehman, British Columbia, where they farmed and built their lives.

Chuck led a full and industrious life, contributing meaningfully to both business and community. From 1956 to 1972, he was part of a family partnership that developed the Clearbrook Shopping Centre, which he also managed. Over the years, he operated a trucking business, drove taxi, and later became an owner/operator of Key West Realty from 1977 to 1994.

His commitment to public service was equally significant. He served as a Matsqui Alderman from 1971 to 1977, Chair of the BC Court of Revision from 1979 to 1994, BC Provincial Returning Officer from 1983 to 1984, and as a Councillor for both Matsqui and the amalgamated City of Abbotsford from 1994 to 2002.

Family

Chuck was predeceased by his wife, Frances, in 1974, and his great-grandchild, Lilee-Jean, in 2013. He was also the last surviving member of his nine siblings.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Christine; his children, Charles (Carol), Gregory, and Wendy (Rene); his stepchildren, Tracey and Michael (Diane); his 10 grandchildren, Charles, Athena, Kristy, Richard, Alyson, Chelsey, Elijah, Kelvin, Alicia and Fayth; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
