Elizabeth ((Betty)) Findlay (Wood)

February 28, 1935 - November 17, 2014

ELIZABETH ELEANOR FINDLAY (BETTY) (née WOOD) died peacefully in the care of the Langley Memorial Hospice in Langley, B.C. on NOVEMBER 17, 2014.  She was 79.

Betty left a broken-hearted family behind including husband, Jim Findlay, son, Jim Findlay Jr. and daughter, Wendy Findlay. Her daughters, Sheilagh and Elizabeth, sadly predecease her.

Betty was born on February 28, 1935 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Alexander and Matilda Wood.  She was a Breaststroke Swimming champion in the late 40’s and early 50’s while she attended Methodist College in Belfast. She immigrated to Canada in 1953 and married Jim on Sept. 4, 1954 in Toronto. This was the start of 60 years of marriage.  In addition to raising her family, Betty worked as a Swimming Teacher and Executive Assistant in Toronto.  Upon her husband’s retirement, the family moved to Vancouver and she began working in the travel industry. She flourished in her position as a Cruise Consultant with CruiseShipCenters.  Betty loved the cruise industry and cherished the special friendships she had with many of her colleagues.   She also adored animals and was an advocate for many animal organizations.  Betty was the best wife and mother anyone could ask for and a loyal, honest friend.  She will be terribly missed by her family, many friends and relatives in Northern Ireland.  The family would like to thank the Langley Memorial Hospice for their incredibly loving support and kindness. The family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Don McDonald of Langley and Dr. Paul Galbraith of Abbotsford for their kind and compassionate support.
