George Roy Carver

Tribute

 

George passed away peacefully at age 100 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital on Saturday August 12, 2017.

George was born in Vancouver May 27, 1917 to parents George and Catherine (nee Mansel), and lived in Vancouver, moving to Abbotsford in 1992. He married Hazel Grace Harcus on October 14, 1939, and they enjoyed a loving marriage of 77 years. A veteran of WWII, he was deployed in England, Belgium, Holland and Germany from 1944-1946, and marched in local Remembrance Day services until he was 98.

George worked for 35 years for the American Can Company, retiring in 1980 at the age of 63. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf, travelling and spending time with family. He is survived by wife Hazel, sister Catherine “Rena” Armistead, daughter Betty (Dennis) Gelean and sons John, Roy, Rob (Bonnie) and Kelly (Cindy), as well as his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Monday August 21, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church, 1460 W. 49th Avenue, Vancouver BC  from 10 am to 11 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Joy Fellowship, c/o 3036 E. Georgia Street, Vancouver, BC V5K 2K7.
