George Henry Thielmann

April 6, 1949 - March 24, 2025

Tribute

George Henry Thielmann, 75, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord on March 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  George was born April 6, 1949 in Chilliwack to George and Agnes Thielmann, the youngest of their eight children. He attended East Chilliwack Elementary School and then the Mennonite Educational Institute in Abbotsford. At age 15, he met his future-wife Lillian in the raspberry patch.

After finishing high school at Chilliwack Senior Secondary and two years at Columbia Bible Institute, George and Lil were married on June 30, 1970. He went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree at Burnaby’s Simon Fraser University.  Shortly after the birth of their first child, Charmaine, the family moved to Mission where they welcomed three sons Trevor, Timothy, and David.

George worked in youth corrections, probation, and in Family Court counselling. George turned down a number of  advancement opportunities in order to dedicate time to his family.

George was happiest when he was making himself of service to his kids and grandkids, often in his workshop taking things that were broken and making them beautiful.

George and Lil were also deeply involved in church, with George often leading worship with his 12-string acoustic guitar.

George and Lil retired on the same day in 2004, which began their passion for cycling. They rode everywhere, always together.  During his final days, George and Lil remained inseparable, holding each other’s hands and looking to their Lord for the grace and courage to see every day as a beautiful gift.

George is survived by his loving wife, Lil, his children Charmaine, Trevor (Carol), Timothy (Beth), and David, his grandchildren Marcus (Karis), Alexander, Josephine, Emmett, Wyatt, Marjorie and Winifred, and his great-grandson, Jasper George, as well as his siblings Walter, Herta, and Betty. George is predeceased by his precious granddaughter, Julia, his parents, and his siblings Ervin, Victor, Elma and Margaret.

A memorial service will be held for George Thielmann on Friday, April 4, 2025, 1:00pm at Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Rd, Abbotsford, BC. V4X 1X5.

Hello Lil and family. I heard of George’s passing and thought immediately to my, and George’s, teenage years. George, Bob Doerksen and I played together within the youth ministry; and as part of a band which included Ed Driedger and Peter Falk. Fond memories. I think we called ourselves the Eagleaires. I’m glad that the memorial service is being livestreamed and will attend on Friday remotely from Cochrane, Alberta — where Martha and I now live. May you sense the nearness of God’s Spirit during these days. Blessings to you. Ron Ratzlaff

Dear Lil and family, My heart goes out to all of you. I was blessed to ride with you two on many occasions and enjoyed getting to know you. What a wonderful thing it is to have faith in our Lord and know that you will be again with George. John 11-23 says “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die will live again” Hugs
