Gerald (Gerry) Robert Mitchell

August 24, 1945 - December 8, 2022

Tribute

Gerry was born August 24, 1945 in Lac La Biche, Alberta.  He and his wife, Dona resided in Yarrow, BC for the last 25 years where they bred and raised horses, which raced at Cloverdale Race Track. Gerry also had a passion for trains and always had plenty of stories we all enjoyed hearing.  Gerry worked at CN Railways and as a longshoreman, both for over 20 years.  Gerry was predeceased by his parents, John and Violet Mitchell, his brother Gilbert Mitchell, and one sister at infancy.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Dona and stepchildren; Jocelyn (Colin) and their children Luke and Ryan;  Jacquelyn (Clay) and their children Noah and Beckham;  Geoffrey (Jennifer) and their children Ava, Ella and Clara; as well as Gerry’s siblings, Charlotte (Larry) Hall, Shirley Sackman as well as many nieces and nephews.  Gerry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  A private graveside service is to be held on December 22/22 at Yarrow Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the Doctors and nurses at both Chilliwack Hospital and Abbotsford Regional Hospital  for the care Gerry received the last few months.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness. For his name sake. Psalm 23

Gerry and I both came from railway backgrounds that had us both gravitate to the longshoreman industry. I can still recall as a casual going with Gerry to deliver yellow page phone books in between trying to get work on the docks. Gerry was knowledgeable , bright, funny as hell and always a joy to talk to or listen to his stories. He was truly missed when illness took him from docks and I chatted with him the day he retired. He’ll missed and his compassion, joy and ready smile will always be remembered.
