Gertrude (Gertie) Hooge passed away April 1, 2017 at the Menno Hospital, Menno Place in Abbotsford BC. She was 89 years old. It was hard to say good-bye. She will be dearly missed. Gertie was born March 15, 1928, in Franklin, Manitoba, the fifth of 10 children born to Frank and Maria (Wellman) Braun. The family moved from Arnaud, Manitoba to Langley, BC in 1945. Peter Hooge and Gertie married in 1947 and raised six children: Dennis, Linda, Janet, Clarence, Gary and Sheila on a small strawberry farm on Brown Rd (now 240th St). Gertie is predeceased by her parents, great grand-daughter, Darien Leigh Wheeler, her beloved Peter, siblings: John, Mary, Albert, Herbert, Henry, Leonard. Gertie will be lovingly remembered by: Dennis (Margo) Hooge, Linda (Jake) Sawatzky, Janet Heslop, Clarence Hooge, Gary (Janet) Hooge, Sheila (Jay) Henkel, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren; her siblings: Rita, Frank, and Leola (Menno) Bartsch, plus many additional relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11:00 am at Bethel Mennonite Church, . 24687 – 56 Avenue, Langley, interment will be at the Murrayville Cemetery.

Mom I loved you the day I was born until eternity…
You were the most loveable, caring, giving person I knew. Who always treated my friends like they were your own. Thanks for always being there for me and giving me all the love one could give. Spending this last week with you was so emotional but what a gift to be able to be with you. I know you are now with Jesus, dad and all your beloved family…. Mom knowing how strong your faith was and seeing you look up intently we knew Jesus and your family was waiting for you with open arms…, the hummingbird in the window fluttering so beautiful and delicate was already you. The day after your passing the hummingbird was on my cherry maple tree watching over me I know. How blessed to have witnessed such miracles in life. “Fly mom, fly like a bird ” ❤️😇🙏Thank you for loving me so much! Love your baby Sheila
