Gwendolyn (Gwen) Jean Laing (Brown)

February 21, 1934 - May 19, 2026

Tribute

Gwendolyn Jean Laing, (nee : Brown ),92, of Aldergrove, B.C. passed away peacefully in hospital with family by her side on May 19, 2026. She was determined to stay in her family home until the end, and was in hospital only for her final hours. She was born February 21, 1934 in Saskatchewan.

She is survived by her four beloved sons: Bob (Karyn ), Jim, Joe ( Joanne ), Brian ( Denyse ) and grandchildren: Christie, Derrick, Danny, and James, (Grannie to all ). She was widowed after the loss of her husband of 57 years, Thomas Charles Laing (September 16, 1932 to February 6, 2017.)

Gwen started her life living near Rocanville, Saskatchewan on a farm and then eventually made her way to the lower mainland after completing her nurse training. She started out working at Chilliwack hospital, and then went on to Langley Memorial when it was just the seven cottages. She had many fond memories of those years, and would often talk to her classmates from her nurse training. Many were lifelong friends, with Mom being the second to last remaining of the group.

Marriage on June 23, 1960 led to them having four boys in five years, and a change from a nursing career to wife, proud mother, baker, and avid gardener. She was the glue that kept all of us in check, a trend setter as she wouldn’t back down from any obstacle that crossed her path. There was never a gray area with Mom; she didn’t sugar coat things, and we all grew up knowing that she was always there, would always have our backs, and was a fierce protector of all of her loved ones. She loved her house and home, her spoiled dogs, spending time with grandkids and the property that she had been on for over sixty years. She kept a large vegetable garden for years along with her rose gardens. We all have many good memories of waking to the smell of fresh baked bread, and chocolate chip cookies.

They had a good social life with many lifelong friends and neighbors, with whom they enjoyed fun times together playing music, cards, or just gathering to have dinners and drinks. She will forever be remembered for her caring ways, hard-working nature, wonderful cooking and baking, her sharp wit and tongue, and her never ending  Love for her family.

At Gwen’s request there will be no service.
