My dad lived his life the way some people light a candle — quietly, steadily, without asking for attention, yet somehow illuminating everything around him. He didn’t need big speeches or grand gestures. His love showed up in the everyday things: the fixing, the checking in, the quiet presence that made you feel safe just because he was in the room.
He carried responsibility the way other men carry hobbies — naturally, without complaint, as if it were simply part of who he was. And in that steady way, he taught us what strength really looks like. Not loud. Not showy. Just faithful.
He loved Mom with a loyalty that ran deep. He loved us with that same steady devotion — the kind you feel more than you hear. And he loved his grandchildren with a pride that softened his whole face. They were his joy, his legacy, the ones who brought out that twinkle in his eye.
Part of his story — part of our story — is the grief he carried after losing Allan. He held that heartbreak quietly, but it shaped him. And today, as we honour Dad, we also feel the comfort of imagining that reunion — father and son, whole again, waiting for us in a place where pain has no home.
Dad wasn’t perfect, and he never pretended to be. But he was good. Good in the way that matters. Good in the way that shapes a family for generations. His humour, his “spare parts” wisdom, his calm steadiness — these are the things we’ll carry forward.
We miss him already. We will miss him for the rest of our lives. But we are grateful — deeply grateful — for the years we had, for the lessons he taught without ever trying, and for the love he gave so quietly and so well.
Daddy… thank you.
For your strength.
For your steadiness.
For your love.
For the way you shaped us simply by being who you were.
Rest now.
We’ll take it from here.

You picked such a wonderful picture of Harvey, it immediately floods my memory with his hearty laugh, pleasant personality, and kindness that he exuded. This earth has lost such an amazing soul, but heaven gained one of the best angels possible. His legacy will always live on. I am so sorry for your loss.
