Hedy Bergen-Mierau (Neufeld)

Tribute
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Mom & Oma. We know she is now in a much better place with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Hedy was born in the Ukraine, and her family moved to Paraguay when she was three. They later immigrated to Canada when she was a teenager.
She married Helmut Bergen in May 1963 and they had two sons, Robert and Vern. Helmut predeceased her in 2004.
In June 2006, she married her second husband, Pete Mierau, who passed away in 2024.
Hedy is survived by her sons, Robert (Kimberlee) and Vern, and by her former daughter-in-law, Lisa, with whom she remained close.
She also leaves behind 3 grandchildren: Christopher, Niklas, and Jessica as well as two great-grandchildren: Brynlee and Bo. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her.
Some of the things that brought Hedy joy: hummingbirds, cacti, gardening, ladybugs, decorating and taking long walks.
She was a great cook, a talented baker, an enthusiastic gardener and a skilled crafter who created many beautiful needlepoint pictures throughout her life.
Hedy loved spending time with her family, extended family, church community and nurtured a great many lifelong friendships.
Hedy’s Celebration of Life is being held on Saturday April 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church on 2051 Windsor St. Abbotsford, BC. There will be a luncheon afterwards.
Hedy requested beforehand that in lieu of flowers, donations to the MCC would be appreciated. For anyone who wishes to remember her this way, an MCC donation box will be in the foyer.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the retirement home at Harrison Landing in Langley, BC. for the compassionate care she received there.
