Helen Goosen (Siebert) passed away to be with her Lord and Saviour on August 25, 2026 at the age of 95 at Laurel Place Hospice in Surrey, B.C. She was born on July 6, 1931 in La Glace, Alberta. Helen was the youngest of eight children. As a teenager Helen moved to Chilliwack with her parents and two older siblings and attended Chilliwack High School and after graduating, she attended Yarrow Bible School in 1951.
In 1950 Helen met Peter in the small community of Greendale and they were married in the Greendale MB Church on August 23, 1953. Their family grew with four children, Ed, Ernie, Carl and Eleanor. Peter and Helen made their home on Sumas Prairie Rd. in Greendale on a small farm. Later they moved to a larger dairy farm at the end of South Sumas Road in Greendale and farmed there from 1964 – 1990. Helen helped Peter on the farm. A hardworking farmer’s wife who milked cows and drove tractors. She tended to her growing young family and managed a large garden of vegetables and flowers. Peter and Helen moved off the farm and built their retirement home on South Sumas Road in 1988 and their son Carl and his family took over the farm.
They loved to travel and explore. They would often take trips to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, South America and Australia and then with their RV they would travel across Canada and later spent the winters in Palm Springs and Arizona. Helen loved spending time with friends and family. They often hosted out of town family and friends in their home and enjoyed many family parties and celebrations. They moved to another home in Sardis in 2008, then in 2013 moved to a condo in Chilliwack. After Peter passed away, Helen later moved into the Auburn in Chilliwack in 2025.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Peter in 2019 and their oldest son, Edward in 1985. Her Siebert siblings, Abe (& Cornelia), Henry (& Mary), Nick, Gertrude (& Abe Warkentin), Kay (& Clyde Heller), Anna (& Henry Nichol) and Jack (& Erma). She is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, daughter-in- law, Anneke VanLeeuwen (Lawrence Dirks). Ernie (Michele) Goosen, Carl (Elaine) Goosen, Eleanor (Mike) Girard. Her grandchildren, Erin (Jonathan Gee) Goosen, Dean (Jaylene), Brad, Brent (Gina), Craig (Julie), Scott (Brittany), Bryan (Danielle), Eric (Michelle), Matthew (Jenn) Girard, Lexa (Hazel) Girard, Nick (T’ea) Girard, Chris (Alyssa) Girard as well as step-grandchildren, Amber Dirks and Shayna (Gefei Jia) Dirks and 19 great grandchildren. Helen is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Siebert and Carol Gossen.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Chilliwack Hospital and the Laurel’s Place Hospice for their care and kindness of Helen during her final days of her life, and for the many people that stopped by and visited with Helen in those last days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MCC BC.
