Herman Klatt

April 25, 1939 - July 27, 2024

Tribute

Herman Klatt was born on April 25, 1939 in Minitonas Manitoba. He grew up in a family of 6 children. He has many stories of playing baseball and being  a pitcher for his team. When he was 29 he was working as a logger and a log tragically fell on the equipment he was operating resulting in his near death. His life was spared but his ability to walk was not and he was transported to hospital where he learned of his paralysis. He cried out to God in his agony as he grappled with this great loss. He tells a story of receiving a vivid dream that night in the hospital. He said in the dream he was in a sports car, driving down the road and Jesus was driving and told Herman, ”I will be the driver now”. Herman said that at that moment he decided he had to give over full control of his life to Jesus, his saviour, his redeemer and his God.

Herman went on to be a successful business man providing medical supplies at first to his fellow paraplegic friends and then many more people in Abbotsford through his business called Abbey Medical Supplies which he opened in 1982.  He was disciplined and hardworking but he also enjoyed some world travel and took many long drives up to his place in Scotch Creek.

Herman’s life is an example of what it looks like to “take up your cross” and follow Jesus as Jesus calls His believers to do in Matthew 16:2.   He was never heard to complain about his lack of mobility and instead lived Romans 8:18 ….”For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us”. He suffered well and with honor looking to his saviour as his perfect example of suffering for God’s glory.

Herman went running into the arms of his saviour on July 27, 2024. Our family is so proud of him and his life lived for God.  We are celebrating and not grieving like those without hope!  Herman fought the good fight!

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing”.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  2 Timothy 4:7-8
