Tribute

With heavy hearts, we share that Hertha Tessman has passed on to be with her heavenly Father on September 25, 2025. We are forever grateful to have shared so many of her 89 years with her.

A true matriarch, she built our family with her soulmate Wilmer after surviving an extremely difficult childhood, escaping war-torn Russia with her mother at the age of 12. They established our family in Ontario, then moving to BC, eventually settling onto the farm where their children and grandchildren enjoyed the best of life. They were blessed to enjoy 66 years of happy marriage together.

Hertha lived a life rooted in faith, love, and kindness, always reflecting Christ’s light in the way she cared for her family and those around her. Her hands and heart were always busy with service. Whether family, friend, acquaintance or stranger, she gave her time generously, and showed everyone compassion. She spent many hours over the decades volunteering at Pioneer Girls, Eden Mennonite Church, MCC Thrift Store,  the Blood Donor Clinic and canvassing for the Cancer Society, connecting with people and building relationships along the way. A master baker, her squares will be sorely missed by many! A prolific needle crafter, her walls are covered with intricate needlepoint creations, and she has knitted sweaters and afghans for all number of family and friends. In recent years Hertha had taken to knitting and donating hundreds of gloves each year to sell at the MCC Thrift Store. Hertha took great pride in her beautiful flower garden on the farm, and collecting endless harvests from her garden.

We rejoice in the promise that she now rests peacefully in the arms of her Savior.
