Irene Sarah Philippsen

June 22, 1928 - May 9, 2016

Tribute

…She is worth more than rubies. …Her children arise and call her blessed. (Proverbs 31)

After a sudden and brief illness Irene Sarah Philippsen passed away while peacefully asleep. Her charm, creativity, sense of humour and gentle spirit endeared her to others all her life, even during her final days in hospital and hospice. An enthusiastic singer, artisan and skilled painter, Irene forever missed her fellow artists in the Comox Valley’s Monday Bunch after moving from Black Creek, BC to Abbotsford.  Irene is mourned by her family: Lynda Philippsen, Laurence and Lorraine Philippsen, Norman Philippsen and Kellie Hudson, Carl and Tanya Philippsen, Aaron and Christina Philippsen, Albert Wedel, Walter and Elfrieda Philippsen, Ken and Erika (Philippsen) Pleasance as well as grand-dog Lucy. Her many friends at Evergreen Village, former “Black Creekers,” and Clearbrook MB Church sorely feel her absence, too.  She is predeceased by her beloved husband Alvin Philippsen as well as sisters Margaret Wedel,  Mary Van Bergen and Elizabeth (Betty) Peters. A memorial service and tea will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church beginning at 1:00 PM.

Lynda,
My thoughts are with you as you struggle to accept the loss of your dear mother. I am sorry that I cannot be there to give you a hug on the day of her service, but I know your mother’s loving arms will always surround you.

From: Judith Reeves
Relation: she was part of my fitness class

Irene was a faithful participant in my Osteofit class for many years. In that time she was always a gracious and gentle soul. I’m so glad that I knew her and so sorry for your loss. Evergreen Village will miss her as well.

From: John and Elvera Falk
Relation: Elvera's father's cousin

We cherish pleasant memories of Irene and send our sincerest condolences to the family.

From: Bert (Wedel) and Ed Enns
Relation: Relative

Thinking of you as you gather today to remember and celebrate Irene’s life as Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Friend …. I have fond memories of my Black Creek years and sharing in meals at your home, singing in the choir with Irene and admiring her paintings, one of which she generously gifted to us at our wedding. May memories of love and life shared be a source of comfort and strength through this time of loss. With our deepest condolences, Bert and Ed
