Isobel Peters

April 11, 1925 - December 27, 2015

Tribute

Sarah (Isobel) Peters, late of Abbotsford, BC, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015 at Cascade Lodge Hospice in Chilliwack at the age of 90.  She was born to James and Sarah Elden in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 11, 1925.

At the age of 15, Isobel moved with her family to Vancouver, BC where she later met her husband Hank and they married on October 27, 1956.  They were blessed with two children and moved to Abbotsford in 1961 to raise their family.  Isobel was very involved in the United Church and later Calvin Presbyterian Church and volunteered for many years with the MSA Hospital Auxiliary, BC Cancer Society, SOS Children’s Villages and Save the Children organizations.  Isobel lived a strong commitment to her faith in God and her devotion to prayer.  In 1968 she was instrumental in starting ‘Prayer Group’ for small groups of women who would pray together in their homes.  Prayer Group grew rapidly to include women from many community churches and is still active today as an interdenominational ministry.

Isobel is survived by her loving husband Hank, children Ken (Jen) Peters of Summerland, Sally (Tony C.) Ganzeveld of Chilliwack and grandchildren Joseph and Jessica Peters and Rachel, Jamin and Josiah Ganzeveld.

She is predeceased by her parents James and Sarah Elden, sisters Margaret (John) McCabe, Francis Rule, Kathleen (Mel) Bevis, and brothers James (Marion) Elden, Tom (Roma) Elden, and Richard Elden.

The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff on the ACE Unit at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and the staff and volunteers at Cascade Lodge Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care of Isobel in her final days.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 1 pm at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 33911 Hazelwood Ave, Abbotsford, BC.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Chilliwack Hospice Society are greatly appreciated.
