Jacob Wiebe
January 1, 1926 - June 12, 2015
Tribute
Jacob (Jake) Krahn Wiebe, 89, of Abbotsford, B.C., son of the late Peter Wiebe and Margaretha Krahn, died peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. His two month residence in hospital was occasioned by pneumonia and the resulting complications.
Jake was born in Barkfield, Manitoba in the Rural Municipality of Hanover on January 1, 1926. He was married to Anne Klassen on July 29, 1950. They lived in southern Manitoba for the first seventy-one years of his life and then moved to Abbotsford in 1997 to be closer to some of the family.
After coming to Winnipeg in the fall of 1946, Jake found his life’s work at Cowin Steel, ultimately staying for 43 years, retiring January 1, 1990.
Jake became a Christian in 1958. This changed the course of his life and life involvements. His interests included Bible reading and study and various church involvements including teaching new believers, marriage preparation (with Anne) classes and Sunday school, serving on church boards and greeting people as they arrived at church. After retirement he volunteered as an associate chaplain at Winnipeg International Airport, for seniors visitation, and, after moving to Abbotsford, with the Salvation Army.
Jake made friends easily. A natural outcome of this was his interest in speaking to people he encountered about his faith in Jesus. He continued this even in his recent weeks in the hospital.
Jake is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne; five children: Rick, Terry (Diane), Gail Chamberlain (Paul), Judy Wardrop (Mark), and Tim (Debbie); nine grandchildren, Matthew (Nikki), Christie, James, Tyler Chamberlain (Raechel), James Chamberlain, Lindsey and Kaitlyn Wardrop, Olivia and Lauren; and one great granddaughter, Cadence Chamberlain. Jake will also be remembered by his two remaining sisters, Minnie and Margaret Wiebe (Jake) and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday June 19, 2015 at Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church, 2719 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, B.C.
