John Boehr

January 8, 1934 - April 11, 2023

Tribute

John Boehr passed away April 11, 2023.  He was born Jan 8, 1934, near Willow Lake Saskatchewan to Henry H. Boehr and Maria nee Tieszen. He was the youngest boy and 7th baby in the family of 10 siblings.  John went to school until grade 7, worked a variety of jobs helping on the family farm and he attended Rosthern Bible school in Saskatchewan around 1952.  John was baptised in the Mayfair Mennonite church.

In 1961, at a wedding in Lethbridge Alberta, John met Marina, who would become the love of his life for the next 60 years.  Marina and John said it was love at first sight when they met.  They married on Oct 5, 1962.

That year, he found a job working for a company called Savolite, an industrial soap making plant in Vancouver.  He was 28 years old and worked there for 31 years.  He received his 4th class steam engineering certificate from BCIT in 1965 to aid his work.

John and Marina bought their first house on Thurston Street in Burnaby where Cheryl was born in 1965.  In 1967, Bobby was born, and shortly thereafter they moved into their second home on Gilpin Court in Burnaby.  Norman came along in 1969 and they lived in that same house for a total of 50 years.

John was always busy around the house and yard working on all sorts of things.  He did many of the home renovations through the years.  He loved gardening, growing vegetables and flowers.  He enjoyed a good laugh and good company.  He loved going fishing and camping most of all.

The family attended Mountainview Mennonite Church for 30 years until they moved over to Peace Mennonite Church in Richmond for another 30 years. John and Marina served together in greeting and ushering.  He loved to sing in worship to God, and he had a wonderful voice.  He especially loved the old hymns.

When the grandkids came along, the joy they brought him was evident in his face when he saw them.  He was very proud of all of them.

In 2006, John and Marina downsized out of the home they lived in for 50 years to Chelsea Garden in Surrey.  In October 2022, shortly after their 60th wedding anniversary, John was moved into full-care at Elim Village in Surrey, BC.  On Dec 6, 2022, the love of John’s life passed into the presence of Jesus.

John’s health and mind quickly deteriorated further and on April 11th, he passed into the presence of Jesus as well, to join Marina and those who have gone before.

John is predeceased by his faithful, loving wife of 60 years, Marina, his siblings Sam, {Linda}, Ed, {Anne}, Annie, {Russell aka: Buck}, George, Fred, Grace {Jake}, {Herb}.

He will be greatly missed by children Cheryl, Bob (Shannon), Norman (Rhian), and grandchildren, Rhys (Tahnee), Bryce and James.

The service will be April 20 at 1pm at the Harrison West Chapel at Elim Village 9025 160 St, Surrey, BC
