John Funk

May 23, 1935 - January 20, 2024

Tribute

John was born on May 23, 1935 to Abram and Helen Funk in
Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He was the first born of 13 – 10 boys
and 3 girls.  He passed peacefully into the presence of his Saviour on
January 20, 2024.
John is survived by his wife Irene; by their son Garvin; by their
grandchildren Evanna (Matt), Alex, and Colin and by their great
grandsons Greyson and Levi.  He is predeceased by their daughter
Melodie; by his parents; by his brother Henry; and by his infant
brother Abe.
John and Irene (Enns) met in Abbotsford and were married
here in 1958 but then lived in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They
moved from Saskatchewan to Abbotsford in 1971.
He loved and enjoyed music with Southern Gospel being his
favourite.  Over the years, he sang in at least a couple of quartets and
in church choirs whenever he had opportunity.
John was a truck driver almost all his working life.  He worked
primarily for Motorways Trucking, Reimer Express Lines, and for 24
years for Rempel Brothers Concrete.  He retired from Rempels in
2000.  After his retirement, John worked for a while shuttling cars
from one dealership to another.  He also volunteered to drive cancer
patients into Vancouver for treatments.
A shared love for John and Irene was holidaying in their truck,
with the boat tied to the roof racks, and their travel trailer hooked on
behind.  They visited every province in Canada from BC to
Newfoundland and travelled to Alaska at least twice.  They also went
south to California and numerous other states.
John loved his church.  He and Irene were always involved in
some way.  Together, they were members of Abbotsford Pentecostal
Assembly for 52 years.
He loved God, loved God’s Word, and loved to pray for the
needs of those around him.

John loved his family.  He and Irene celebrated their
65th  anniversary just less than a month before he passed away. He lit up
when he talked about his children and grandchildren.
We have lost a good man.  A good man who loved and was
devoted to family; a good man who loved his church and his God.  A
good man who was a good friend to many.
