John Snel was promoted into the glory of his heavenly father on September 21, 2021 at the age of 82. He was born to Gerrit and Jannetje Snel on April 19, 1939 in Nederhorst Den Berg, the Netherlands. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nell; children, Mike and Susan Snel (Frisco, TX), Yvonne and Brad Nelson (West Kelowna) and Darren and Karen Snel (Oliver) along with 7 grandchildren; Cierra, Kate, Tyler, Brendan, Flancie, Trae and Emmy and one great grandchild, Alayah. John was the oldest of 7 children and is also survived by his sisters; Nellie and Wayne Ball (Abbotsford) and Ann and Kent Graham (Australia). He was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings; Gerda Cornish, Gary Snel, Angie Selles and Herman Snel. John immigrated to Canada with his family in 1957. He studied for a short time at UBC and spent 36 years as the Chief Medical Lab Technologist at Mission Memorial Hospital before his retirement in 2000. He was a faithful member of Living Hope CRC where he spent many years of service as a deacon, elder and a Synod representative in 1995 and 2006. He also served on the board of directors of the CRWRC. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated family man, a man of strong faith and a caring servant to all he came into contact. He will be dearly missed by his friends, family and all of the people he met while camping. The family would like to share our sincere gratitude for the incredible compassionate and loving staff of the Menno Home East-1 who cared and loved John for the last few years. A celebration of life will be held at Living Hope CRC on September 27 at 1 p.m.

My sincere condolences to John’s wonderful family. I knew him through the hospital and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He had my girls 8 & 5 then to help him out with Pink & Purple day festivities at the park and saw first hand what a patient and caring man he was.
May your grief now be overtaken by laughter and joy as the happy memories take over your sad days in the near future.
