Julia Ellen Wright

May 31, 1951 - June 11, 2021

Tribute

With profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Julie on June 11, 2021 at the Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, BC.  She leaves to mourn her husband Mike, son Patrick and his wife Joanne and her adored granddaughters:  Ayla Violet Russell and Zoey Amelia Russell.  She is also survived by her brothers Terry Wright of Regina Saskatchewan; and Wayne Wright of Rockhaven, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her mother Lee, father Bob and younger brother Howard.

She will also be dearly missed by her extended family including: Jeff and Audrey Russell and their children Aiden and Mikayla of Saskatoon; Bob and Maureen Webster of Vernon, BC., and their children Lauren of Saskatoon and Rob of Berlin, Germany.

Julie was born in Willkie, Saskatchewan and raised on the family farm near Rockhaven, Sask.  She attended the University of Saskatchewan graduating with a  B.A. (Honours) and B.Ed.  and subsequently a MA in Education from San Diego State University.  She had a long and successful career as an Educator having taught in Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia (Vernon and Abbotsford) in various roles and subjects including French Immersion, Learning Assistance, English as a Second Language and District resource teacher.

She would always go the extra mile for her students especially those who may not have had the most supportive home environment.  As such, her legacy survives in the many positive impacts she made on the lives and futures of so many children.

Julie was well known for her unwavering kindness, selflessness and positivity. She affected the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew her.  Of all the roles she played in her life, her greatest was that of grandmother.  In the last year of COVID, family working arrangements allowed her to spend extensive time with Ayla and Zoey.  She cherished every moment with them and they loved and adored her.

The family wishes to thank the professionalism of the BC Ambulance Service members who attended to Julie and a very special thanks to the medical, nursing and social work staff of the Royal Columbian Hospital Emergency Department for their respectful and dignified support to Julie and immediate family in her final hours.  The family also wants to recognize the friendship and support of Julie’s dear friend Kanta Naik.

Cremation has occurred in accordance with her wishes.  The family is planning on a Celebration of Life on July 10, 2021 from 2pm to 4pm at her residence subject, of course, to any COVID public health rules prevailing at that time.  If you wish to attend, please confirm to mpr1117@outlook.com or 604-562-1152.

I had the pleasure of working with Julie when we were both Helping Teachers in the CORE building. We often connected and collaborated to support staff and students in schools. Julie was one of the smartest ladies I knew. She could take any problem and figure out a variety of ways to approach it-always with the students at the centre. I will always remember her kind smile, warm laugh, and friendly giving spirit. Her love of icing was equally matched to my relative distaste for it. I always knew Julie was my “go-to-girl” if I needed to get rid of the icing from my teacher appreciation cake slices. She will be missed but never forgotten.

My deepest condolences to Julia’s family. I will always remember her charm and her joyful spirit. She gave me invaluable help when I began my ELL position years ago which was most appreciated. It was wonderful to enjoy some activities with her in our retirement. Her positive, cheerful manner was a gift to us all.

Deepest sympathy to Michael, Patrick, Joanne, Ayla & Zoey. We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Julie’s passing. We have wonderful memories of her many visits to West Cork with Michael and our lovely stay in Abbotsford in September 2001. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. May she rest in peace.

Brian and I were so deeply saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Julie. Her Class of 1969 will miss her dearly. I’m certain that all her friends feel so blessed that she was able to take part in our School Reunion 3 years ago. Julie was so excited to be there to reminisce about all the memories we all shared.
We hope that the Lord will give you His Strength and His Awesome Love to help you through the days ahead.

I’m so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful person inside and out and I can only imagine how your family is suffering.

From: Trevor McLain
Relation: CKHS classmate from 1965 til 1969.

Dear Julie/Julia (I remember when you insisted on that name after our CKHS Grad), you have left this physical realm but will never leave my mind. You were the elegant and educational Valedictorian at our Grad in 1969. I was so happy to see you and Mike in the 50th anniversary reunion. I resolved to connect with you back in BC, but I had heart surgery issues, then COVID came. Time got away from me. I will always regret not seeing you again.
You added such class to our class…an inspiration to all.
