Lorne Wiebe

August 31, 1944 - December 11, 2016

Tribute

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Lorne Peter Wiebe announces his passing on December 11, 2016.  While fighting multiple infections and cancer, he passed away peacefully.

Lorne was born in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan on August 31, 1944.  His parents, Isaac and Mary Wiebe, and his brothers, Wesley and Lindsay, predeceased him.  Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Cheryl, husband Terry and their sons Nick and Nolan; his son, Pat, wife Tracey, their son Bryce and daughter Miranda; thirteen siblings and their spouses; treasured friends, Sharon and John Conklin; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Lorne worked in the meat cutting service.  He started out in Edmonton at Gainers Meat packinghouse.   In 1972, he and his family moved to Richmond where he worked at Safeway; in 1978, the family moved to Abbotsford where Lorne worked as the meat manager at Woodwards.  In 1983, a devastating accident on a 3 wheel all terrain cycle left Lorne a quadriplegic.  He loved spending time with family and friends, watching old westerns, driving and the occasional trip to the casino!  Shocking to most people, he drove his 32 foot motorhome across Canada in 2000.

A special Thank You for the excellent care Lorne received from the nurses and the rest of the staff at Langley Hospital, Sun Ridge Gardens and the Worthington Pavilion.  In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund at http://burnfund.org

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2 pm at the Best Western Plus Regency Inn Conference Centre located at 32110 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, B.C.

Lorne always made me feel comfortable and welcome whenever I was around him. I enjoyed our time together when we’d usually be talking about cars, the exploits of his son (my friend) Pat, the rest of our extended families, work, life, whatever. I was always impressed with his stoic attitude towards his significant challenges. It was clear to see how proud Lorne was of his children and grand kids. He loved them very much and always looked forward to visits and spending time with them. Lorne did his best to continue to live his life to it’s fullest regardless of his condition which is something that I’ll always admire him for. In fact, he inspired me regularly to walk with appreciation for the fact that I could, on his behalf, not complaining if it was raining and I’d get a little wet or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. I hope he somehow knows about that. I’ll miss being able to have our talks like before but until we meet again, I’ll continue them with his son and my best friend, Pat. Cheers to you Lorne until then.

My family’s sincerest love and condolences to everyone who has been touched through Lorne’s life and affected by his passing.

David Renz
