Louise Elizabeth marguerite Boury (Hocking)

April 24, 1926 - December 14, 2022

Tribute

Lou passed away peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness.  She was born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, and the Hocking family, including mother, Helene, father, Hugh, and brother, Richard, moved to British Columbia when she was 17, settling in rural Mt. Lehman. Soon after, she met Ray Boury, whom she married in 1944. They raised their three children together in Abbotsford.

Lou was a pioneer of the downtown Abbotsford core in the late 1940s, working at Marshall-Wells and the Five & Dime Store, followed by work as a receptionist at several dental offices.  Lou and Ray pioneered the first Abbotsford Curling Club, of which they were life-long members, and Lou was a member of the local Ladies Bowling League. Lou also enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, and spending time with her family. In their retirement years, Lou and Ray enjoyed travelling together. They drove up to the Yukon, toured the Panama Canal, vacationed in Hawaii and Florida, and visited relatives in England.

Lou was predeceased by her husband, Ray, and daughter, Carol Jansen. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kirton (Daryl), son, Doug Boury (Cindy), and son-in-law, Don Jansen. As well as six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, three nieces, and friends and family, including relatives in England.

Lou was always willing to give to local charities, including Holmberg House Hospice, Make a Wish Foundation, and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, as well as families in need during the holiday. She will be remembered for her sense of humour and her love for her family. She will be sadly missed.

“Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God made for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
Then turned, and bid farewell to all.”

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations to be made to the Holmberg House
Hospice. https://www.abbotsfordhospice.org/

In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal memorial ceremony, and a private family celebration of life will be held.

Will never forget Lou’s fond welcome when we visited from England. Ian and I will miss her.

From: Pat (Smyth) Reynolds
Relation: Good family friends since the 1940's. Will add a photo later.

Lou & Ray were life long friends of my parents, Chuck & Doreen Smyth. In 1947/48 we were neighbours (along with Jim & Hilda Dalgleish), living on the Douglas Lake Cattle Ranch at Davis Lake. It was a horrible winter, the men had a logging contract and worked as hard. The Mom’s worked hard keeping our cabin warm as we were off the grid. The kids were all little and we were miles from anyone. Last time I saw them all was at my first wedding in Abbotsford in 1965. They did keep in touch with my parents. Lou and Ray were wonderful people. RIP

From: Neil and Jean Martens
Relation: Friends

Our deepest condolences to Lou’s family. May Lou and Ray rest in peace together again.
