Margaret Joan Rempel (Schartner)
January 17, 1933 - December 25, 2021
Tribute
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Joan Rempel (nee Schartner) into the presence of her Lord on December 25, 2021 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital, in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Margaret was born on January 17, 1933 in Sunnyslope, Alberta and moved with her family to BC in 1950. She married Dietrich Rempel in 1976 and they then moved to Grand Forks. Margaret loved their years in Grand Forks, especially hosting visitors, but they eventually returned to Abbotsford to be closer to family.
Margaret and Dick loved to travel and would entertain everyone with their many stories and slideshows of their adventures. Margaret’s family fondly remembers her accounts of their travels all over the world. She also told many stories of growing up on the prairies, especially riding her horse to school each day with her siblings. Margaret never missed a special event or birthday. She had cards, gifts, a phone call, or a song ready for every occasion to make her loved ones feel special. We will miss her infectious laugh, her smiling eyes, her never-ending love and support, her strong hugs, her generous spirit, and the delicious meals she would lovingly prepare and serve around her kitchen table.
Margaret is pre- deceased by her husband Dick Rempel, one step-daughter June Garwood, and her parents Isaac and Margaret Schartner. She is survived by her sisters Ionne Dueck, Eleanore Ness, Eva Toews, Karen Thiessen, Donna Thiessen, and brother Ken Schartner as well as her step-children Don (Jacki) Rempel, Debbie (Rick) Styles, and Bev (Lorn) Hawkins, eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A private family graveside service will take place at the Maclure Cemetery in the spring. Many thanks to the staff of ARHCC for taking such good care of Margaret for her final days. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
