Marie Rehsler
February 5, 1939 - February 10, 2017
Tribute
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Rehsler. Born on February 5, 1939 to Leonhard and Marie Ewert in Dt. Kasun, Poland, Marie and her family fled war-torn Europe in 1948. They eventually settled in Aldergrove where her parents purchased a home. Marie attended Langley Secondary School, was very involved at Bethel Mennonite Church, and after graduation worked in a bank in Vancouver for 8 years.
She married Eugen Schmidt on May 19, 1956 and in 1962 they built a home in Aldergrove and had two children, Eric and Linda. They had a strawberry farm and later a chicken farm.
Her husband, Eugen died on Jan. 24, 1988 having been diagnosed with cancer 9 months earlier. Hard years followed.
On March 18, 1995 Marie married Gotthard Rehsler. They enjoyed almost 22 years together in Yarrow, travelling, serving in their church and community and entertaining. Marie was always happiest when she had a house full of people. She had a remarkable zest for life and a sincere interest in everyone she met.
A special thank you to Dr. Glen Collingridge for his excellent care in the last years of her life as she struggled with heart problems.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17 at 1 pm at Yarrow MB Church, 41995 Yarrow Central Road, Yarrow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or Mennonite Historical Society of B.C.

Marie was a dear family friend when my family lived in Aldergrove some 30 years ago. She and my mother had many precious times of shared laughter and tears. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Linda, Eric and Gotthard, and with your families as you grieve Marie’s passing and celebrate her life so well lived! She was a woman who has left a legacy of caring, love and blessing in the lives of many!

Gotthard, Eric & Linda –
Although it has been years since I have been to BC, I still remember vividly and fondly the gathering of the cousins. There was always food and laughter….lots of laughter….lots of food. Tante Mary was always in the middle of the good times. She welcomed everyone with open arms and her friendly smile. You could see that she loved having family and friends around. She really made the world a better place. I treasure those memories.
I share in your sorrow, but rejoice that she suffers no more.
Eternal rest grant unto Mary and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Dear Eric and Linda, you may not know of me but I have knew your Dear Mother since I was a small child. She used to babysit me and my brother when your Mother and Grandparents lived at Bellevista Farm in Langley. Your Grandfather worked for my Dad. I remember attending your Mom and Dad’s wedding. For a couple of summers I picked Strawberries for your Mom and Dad. She came and picked me up at Milner in her bug. Over the years she often would be in touch with my Mother, especially on her birthday which was the day after your Mother’s. Sorry to hear of your loss. May your many memories bring you comfort.

To Gotthard, Eric and Linda and family members; My heartfelt sympathy to you all. Marie was the shining light, full of warmth and caring no matter who she met or where she went whether it was the church family, new comers to the area or just visiting with family and friends. She had a gift to communicate effortlessly with everyone. Whenever we talked on the phone she was eager to find out how everybody was doing and those conversations lasted close to1 hour and I will miss that. You are at peace and you will be remembered by all who loved you. Ingrid and family
