Mark Augustine Bullock

October 2, 1954 - February 22, 2025

Tribute

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Augustine Bullock on February 22,2025. Mark was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew him.

Mark had a deep appreciation for nature, adventure, and creativity. He loved hiking, running, swimming, and, over the years, cruising to new destinations. An artist at heart, he found joy in carving, sketching, playing guitar, and songwriting.

In the 1970s, Mark traveled south to pursue his love of sports and education, playing baseball and soccer while earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern New Mexico University. Upon returning to Abbotsford, he worked as a program director for MSA Cable, where fate led him to the love of his life, Sue English, on a blind date. Their connection was instant, and they built a beautiful life together, celebrating 42 years of marriage.

Mark dedicated 30 years to the Federal Government as an IT specialist, bringing his intelligence and problem-solving skills to his work. However, his greatest passion was always his family. He was a gentle, kind, and generous soul who cared deeply for those around him, as well as for nature and the world as a whole.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Sue; his mother, Alice; and his brothers, Steve and Peter; and nephew, Aiden. He was predeceased by his brother Paul and will always be remembered fondly by all of Sue’s family and those whose lives he touched.

Mark’s  spirit will live on in the beauty of the natural world he cherished and in the hearts of those who loved him. A family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Parkinson’s Society of BC ( https://parkinson.bc.ca/ways-to-give/give-in-honour-in-memory ) or a Canadian nature conservation organization of your choice.

As I went about organizing personal photos the other day, I was compelled to search online for a dear former colleague of mine: Mark Bullock. How sad I was to discover that he had passed away just a few months ago! I started working for a local office in the Federal Government in 1981, and it wasn’t long before I had need to touch base with Mark. He worked at our Regional Headquarters and was the go-to person for office inventory at that time. He was just the most helpful, and friendly, person to me as a newbie learning Admin work. By 1990, I started working at our Regional Headquarters, where Mark and I both worked under the same Director (me in Procurement and he in Telecommunications). It didn’t seem to matter what demands were put on Mark, and it was busy times, he faced them head on with humour. If someone in our group felt stressed, he was the voice of calm and reason, putting things back into perspective. By 2000, both of us were in IT (me at back at a local office, he at Headquarters) and we continued to touch base when either of us needed help. Reading his obituary, there was so much more to Mark, and his personal interests, than I knew, but the words “gentle, kind, and generous soul” really describe him best. My deepest condolences to his wife, and family. He touched many lives and will always be remembered well.
