Mary Nickel (Rempel)

October 11, 1931 - December 28, 2018

Tribute

Mary Nickel was born on October 11, 1931 in Oak Lake, Manitoba. Her parents were Helena and George Rempel, immigrants who had fled from the Ukraine in 1924 to escape the unsafe political landscape following WWI and the Russian Revolution. The family moved to BC in 1938.  While in her teens a friendship between mom and dad (Albert Nickel )blossomed eventually leading to their wedding Oct 6 1950.  Mom was beautiful, kind, generous, hospitable, forgiving, creative, resourceful, hardworking and courageous. Mom was a seamstress, gardener, cook, baker, farmer and prayer warrior.  All these responsibilities were embedded with evidence of her strong faith, and trust in her Lord who she leaned on to help face each day. She lovingly cared for her family and also shared hospitality with Missionaries, visiting pastors and their families who were regular guests.

Mom was courageous, long suffering and readily admitted her imperfections. She longed for family togetherness and was all too aware of her mistakes and omissions. She recognized that her children’s lives were full and complex, and appreciated what they could give her.  Between 2006 and 2018 Mom lived at Hallmark and Menno Terrace, In March 2018 she moved to Tabor home.

On December 28th our very dear mother breathed her last breath and went to see Jesus.

As a family we rejoice that Mom is free from all suffering and is forever with her precious Savior.

Predeceased by her husband Albert, son Charles, grandson Craig Loewen.

Survived by Charlene (Hugo) Bach, Geri (Larry) Loewen, Marlene Demers, Rose (Norm) Klassen, Sylvia (Will) Dirks, Jane (George) Barg, Jim (Catherine) Nickel, Kathi (Tom) South, David (Kathy) Nickel, Angi (Gary) Collins, Andrew (Susan) Nickel, and Cecilia Nickel.

She had 24 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
