Mary (Chris) Christina Riopelle (McKee)
January 5, 1943 - July 14, 2025
Tribute
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Chris Riopelle. Chris passed away at Holmberg House Hospice in Abbotsford, BC on July 14, 2025. Chris was predeceased by her husband, Romeo (Rip), brother, Cameron and daughter, Josee.
She served in the RCAF before having her children and becoming a full-time homemaker. She was proud of her service in the Royal Canadian Legion, having been President of the Aldergrove Legion and a longstanding member of the Abbotsford Legion where she enjoyed music bingo on Wednesdays and meat draws on Saturdays.
KENO was one of her favourite activities, using “her numbers” and every once in awhile her late husband’s numbers, she regularly cashed in. Chris was known for her crocheted dishcloths, often worked on while sitting in her chair with her furry friend Buddy snuggled up beside her. She will be missed around the card table during family gatherings and will forever reign Queen of Five Crowns having scored a perfect zero.
Chris rarely missed a Toronto Bluejays game and never missed a World Juniors Hockey game. (Go Canada Go). She was overjoyed with the 2025 Calder Cup win for the Abbotsford Canucks, supporting them from day 1 as a season ticket holder.
We will remember her gentle smile and the occasional f-bomb just to make sure we were listening. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we know she is at peace and walking along side Josee and her beloved dog, Zack as she looks over us.
She is survived by her brothers, Eddy (Sheila) and Mike (Sherri), her son, Mich (Nicole), and her daughters, Tami (Jerry) and Tina (Jim), as well as many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. Granny was ever so proud of her eight grandchildren: Jordan, Geremy (Samantha), Jason (Shelley), Joey, Crystal (Brenden), Ashley (Matt), Alyssa (Ryan) and Kurtis. A conversation never was complete with Chris unless she bragged about her 14 great-grandchildren: Ciara, Carter, Abigayle, Autumn, Evelyn, Owen, Chloe, Liam, John, Kaylee, Bennett, Mackenzie, Piper and Rachel.
Rest now, dear Mom, Granny, and Great-Granny. You will be forever missed, forever cherished, and always remembered.
Family and friends are invited to attend a gathering at the Abbotsford Legion on September 13 from 10am – 12:30pm to share memories and stories about Chris
