Maureen Anne Kyba (Dyck)

March 24, 1951 - October 16, 2018

Tribute

On Tuesday October 16, 2018 Maureen passed away with her sons by her

side at the age of 68 years.

Maureen was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Peter and Gudridur “Goody”

Dyck and was an only child. She wrote in a memoir “A vivid memory is that

of going white fishing with my father. It was very exciting for me as a

young girl, heading out in the middle of the night to wade around in the

creek shining a flashlight at the fish and scooping them up with a net.”

Maureen eventually moved to British Columbia where she juggled

motherhood and her career as an accountant. She was a long time

employee at SHARE Society and whenever possible, enjoyed spending

time with family and sunny days near the water.

Maureen is survived by her sons Chris (Sabina), Ben (Nicole) and her

grandson Carson.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at the

Abbotsford Regional Hospital Cancer Centre for all their kindness and

compassion during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the

support they’ve received from family, friends and her co-workers during

the last 15 months. Maureen has requested that no service be held.

I was privileged to work along side Maureen for many years. Her quiet manner, dedication to her profession and her family are things that I will always remember. I occasionally teased her about coming from a town whose name was inspired by a book character. She endured these occasional little jabs with her smile. I was honoured to have our paths intersect.

She will be missed. Strength to her family at this sad time.

From: Valerie Hutton
Relation: friend and work colleague

Maureen and I commuted together every work day for over 15 years. On our way back and forth, we spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours chatting and sharing about our work at SHARE, our families, our childhoods and so much more!

More than my commuting buddy, Maureen was a dear and valued friend, colleague and confidant. I was so fortunate to have spent several hours with her a few days before she left us, sharing a Starbucks coffee, a few laughs and more stories. I feel so very fortunate to have had that time…I miss her.

My fondest memories of Maureen, the ones that always make me smile, even as I write this, are her culinary tales! Maureen loved to cook and was always keen to try new recipes. What was always so amazing is that she never seemed to have a key ingredient or two, but she tried it anyway. Think of it like making oatmeal cookies with no oatmeal! Often the recipes turned out just fine, but her stories of the failures were always worth a good chuckle.

I would be remiss if I did not mention Maureen’s incredible commitment to her work at SHARE. She was a force to be reckoned with and so many of us relied on her to support our work ans make things all balance. I think I can speak for my colleagues that she is missed greatly by all of us at SHARE.

I am sending my heartfelt condolences to her entire family, especially her sons Chris and Ben. She shared so much about both of them with me over the years and how important they were to her, but I’m sure they know that. She told me many times how much she treasured their time together, especially in these last two years.

God speed my dear friend Maureen. I will miss you and will remember you always.

Valerie

Hello Chris, Sabina, Ben and Nicole,
Although not unexpected, the news of Maureen’s demise broke my heart. I too am an employee at SHARE (King Ed). Maureen and I frequently had lunch together. To me she was a gentle and compassionate lady with few words. I will cherish the memories of our time together at SHARE for the remainder of my life. I am pleased to know that you were present at the the time of her departure. I send my heartfelt condolences to you all. May her soul rest in peace and may you find strength in each other to cope up with this loss.

To Maureen’s Family:

Maureen was among the first people I met at SHARE 14 years ago. We always had the best conversations which inevitably ended in laughter. Maureen was a gentle spirit, and a fierce worker. I found her brilliant; witty; kind … and just a truly lovely human being.

I admired her. I respected her. I miss her laugh. I will remember her always.
My deepest sympathies to you all on her passing. She is so very much missed.

Dear Chris & Ben – I was so sorry to learn of Maureen’s recent passing, and offer heartfelt condolences to you and your families. During the 9+ years that we worked together, I deeply respected Maureen’s diligence, hard work and commitment to SHARE and to her colleagues. I appreciated her patience when reviewing program expenditures, and her thoughtful and creative approaches to problem-solving. She was a very kind and caring person, with a wry sense of humour! She’ll be fondly remembered by those of us who were fortunate to have worked with her.

So sorry for your loss. I will always remember Maureen as a very kind gentle person…although my contact with her over the last 15 years was largely by phone…we would always have a pleasant conversation/laugh.
