Tribute
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Michael Kurkowsky on October 9, 2025 at the age of 73.
Michael leaves to mourn him his wife of 49 years Louise; precious daughter Correne (Jared); the light of his life his granddaughter Lucy, whom he loved so; and his pal Charlie (daughter’s chocolate lab) who he took eveywhere with him when he was visiting. He is survived by his sisters Sonia (Bill), and Zoria; brother Larry (Bonnie) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Nick (Myrna) and brother-in-law Ihor.
Michael was born and raised in Hyas, Saskatchewan and moved to the Lower Mainland in 1971 with his brother Nick. He worked in the forestry industry for approximately 40 years, retiring in 2011 upon having a surprise retirement party with family and friends.
He married in 1976 to Louise and they had their daughter Correne in 1980. Michael was a hard worker for his family and whomever called on him, he was there immediately.
He enjoyed many years going hunting with friends and his son-in-law Jared, bringing home the prized moose and deer. He also bar fished on the Fraser River in Deroche most weekends.
Many trips were made back to his home town to see his mom and dad. He always looked forward to his mom’s fabulous Ukrainian food. Aso trips into the cariboo for family reunions where many memories were made.
His precious granddaughter Lucy was born in 2020 and he had five wonderful years playing and loving her.
The family will be holding a memorial service in the spring of 2026 to celebrate Michael’s life.
No more worries, rest in peace Michael.
