Micheal Daniel Wright

July 6, 1953 - May 3, 2020

It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of the most amazing, caring, and loving man we know.

On May 3, at home, surrounded by his family, Micheal Daniel Wright, “Dan,” to those who knew, and loved him, lost his courageous 16-month fight with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). During his battle, Dan was always quick to partake in any study/trial or experimental drug that came his way to assist in ensuring no one else had to go through the pain he did. Dan always put others first and did everything humanly possible to help others.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Frances, Daughters Natasha, (Richard) Samantha, and Brittany, his son Joshua, (Ashley.) His grandchildren Kealan, Sophie, Hailey, Liam, Callum, Cillien, and Madelyn. His Father Douglas, and three sisters Ileana, (Donald) Krista, (Coby) and Shaylyn. Two brothers Kenneth (Karen) and Brett. He also leaves his loving mother-in-law Marguerite and step mother-in-law Roberta and sisters-in-laws Diane, Sue, (Art) Nancy (Tim) and Karen (Dennis) and many nieces and nephews.

When Dan wasn’t in the hospital, he would spend his time doing what he loved with his loved ones, fishing on the Vedder River, walking Mill Lake, or playing with his grandbabies.

Dan was an active member of the Masons, Abbotsford Lodge #70, and Past Grand Royal Patron, Order of Amaranth. Dan will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. Gone, but never forgotten.

Many thanks to Dr. Yasser Abou Mourad and the team at VGH BMT Leukemia unit as well as all those who donate blood, helping all cancer patients with the gift of life.

The family is in the process of setting up a group donation to assist in Leukemia Research. Any contributions to Frances Wright with the notation Leukemia project.

Due to the restrictions in place because of the Covid-19 virus the memorial will be held once restrictions are lifted, notifications will be posted to “Dan’s leukemia group” on Facebook.

Sam you have said you wanted to hear of some fun things re your Dad. Here are a couple I recall- When it was time for your Dad to come home from work Brina(their Silver Sheltie) would be lying on the top step just waiting- When your Dad came in the door he could hardly get time to shed his boots when she was at the top step -in her own language giving him all the happenings at home that day. A truly beautiful love between Dan and his pet. Another time when Harvey and I went with the family down to the Fraser River to do some fishing. We were seated in our chairs and the were casting into the river when all of a sudden there was a “bark: heard from down stream. Away went the rods-no fish with the seals in the neighbourhood.

There are no words to express my sadness at Dan’s passing. Not only was he an amazing family man with all his priorities in the right place and an amazing work ethic, he was a good friend with a huge heart and he was brilliant.

Over the years, Fran, Dan and I helped each other find work and, about 30 years ago, Dan got me a job with IBM, where he was working. We carpooled and, as he needed to have his car there, he always drove. I remember fondly the hours spent talking with Dan during our long commutes. I learned so much from him, and I will always remember the day I thought we might die with amazing clarity.

We all lived in Surrey at the time, before they redid any of Scott Road, and it was a zoo during rush hour. On our way home one day, with a sky full of fluffy grey clouds that looked like the middle of cotton batting that had been split open, traffic came to a sudden standstill, so there we were, parked smack dab on the tracks with absolutely nowhere we could go if a train came. We sat in silence, each staring out our respective windows watching for a train, hands on the door handles in case we had to bail. Our sighs of relief were audible when we finally got moving. LOL Dan will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace Dan… see you on the other side my friend. <3
