Mike Osadchuk

February 17, 1937 - June 17, 2017

Tribute

Mike Osadchuk was born in Bellis, Alberta on February 17, 1937 to parents John and Sanda Osadchuk and passed away peacefully on June 17, 2017 at the Holmberg Hospice in Abbotsford, BC.  He was pre-deceased by his devoted wife of 51 years, Barbara Anne Osadchuk on June 10, 2015 and leaves behind their 4 children; daughter Michelle Schalm (Lorne, Matthew, Jeremey); daughter Darlene Ma (Edward, Gavin, Trevor); daughter Sandra Brassart (Ryan, Meaghan, Rylee) and son Michael Osadchuk; sisters Olga Osadchuk and Mary Zoteck and many nieces and nephews.  Mike grew up on the family farm in Bellis, AB with 9 brothers and sisters and at the age of 16 moved to Valemount, BC to work for his brother Bill in a logging camp.  He met his wife Anne while hauling lumber to the Carroll Brothers’ sawmill where her father worked and they were married on December 14, 1963 in the Valemount Anglican church.  Mike owned and operated MO Enterprises for over 40 years, driving logging truck and employing several drivers for his other logging and gravel trucks and backhoe.  Mike and Anne opened and operated the Birch Street Bakery in the early 1970’s following which he returned to driving truck.  In addition, he operated Mike’s Cable Service for several years providing wire rope, cable, hooks and chains to the local community.  After his retirement, he maintained several rest areas including the Mt. Terry Fox Provincial Park for over 20 years, cut grass and plowed snow within the village area and provided split firewood to the Mt. Robson campground, Mt. Robson Whitewater Rafting, provincial campsites and local residents.  In May 2015, Mike and his wife Anne moved to Mission, BC for their medical care and enjoyed spending much time with their family there.  Mike was an active member of the Valemount Marina Association and attended the annual Fishing Derby for 31 years with much enthusiasm. He entered his decorated logging truck in the Valemount Sports Day parade for local residents to “Guess the Weight” of his load for over 20 years.  He loved to fish and camp at Kinbasket Lake, hunt, pick wild berries, plant many vegetable gardens and flowers, put up endless Christmas lights and decorations in their home and on their 5 acre property, play casino and travel.  His family was his joy and he was a dedicated husband, father and loyal friend.  After a valiant 5 year journey battling cancer, he went to be with the Lord and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  A service to honor his life was held on June 24, 2017 at the Village Community Hall in Valemount, BC followed by a graveside service and luncheon.

The Osadchuk family would like to express their sincere thanks to Pastor Conrad Broersma for conducting the service; Gwen Pich and Marian Plummer for organizing the luncheon; Hope Norum for operating the sound system; family and friends for all of their help with set-up, take-down and the service organization; George Cook for hosting our family and an evening barbeque for family and friends and to everyone that helped support our family through this difficult time with prayers, calls, cards, flowers, hugs and encouraging words.  The care of the village community is much appreciated.
