Mitchell ((Mitch)) James Burke

July 18, 1991 - January 19, 2017

Tribute

Mitchell “Mitch” James Burke was born on July 18, 1991 in Inverness, NS to Angela (nee: Burke) Dolomont and Wayne Batherson. Sadly, Mitch left us unexpectedly on January 19, 2017. He grew up in Vancouver and attended Killarney Secondary and later worked as a labourer and in the food industry. Mitch is survived by his parents, Angela and David Dolomont of Vancouver, BC and Wayne Batherson (Amanda) of Truro, NS; grandparents Barbara and Angus MacIsaac, Mary and Bernard Batherson; James Burke and Jean; Aunt Crystal; Uncle Stephen, Aunt Sarah and Danika, sisters Danni and Sine; brothers Brett, Brody and Kenzie; Step grandparents Carol and Thomas Dolomont; Step Uncles Darin (Lisa) and Scott Dolomont, Step Aunt Krista (Donnie) Forrest; and many grand aunts & uncle, cousins and friends. Mitch was preceded in death by his grandfather Earl Batherson; Cousins Letticia, Joel, Jacob and friends Daniel and Gary. Mitch loved all sports, but had an intense passion for hockey and his beloved Canucks. From a very early age he was on the ice with a serious wrist shot that surprised the best of them. This was his true happy place. As a little boy he would “pretend” commentating hockey games endlessly and if anyone wanted to know hockey stats, he was your guy! He had a hilarious sense of humour and loved a good joke. Out West he was known as “the wide smiled boy from NS”. His second passion was wrestling, there were countless notebooks of wrestling matches he had choreographed with different scenarios and everyone knew “what The Rock was cooking”! He also enjoyed and looked forward to summer holidays in Cape Breton with his family. He had a special bond with the back east crew and even though raised in BC from 3 years old, he was a “Cape Bretoner “through and through. Mitch will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him, but never forgotten. He was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, grandson, nephew, brother and friend. His celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 1st at 1pm at Salvation Army Church at 3403 East 49th Ave, Vancouver, BC, and officiated by Sharon Tidd and followed by a second celebration of life in Cape Breton at a later date. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca or The Kettle Society at www.thekettle.ca.
