Myra MacLure

September 1, 1927 - June 2, 2017

Tribute

Myra Ione MacLure (née Buchanan) passed away peacefully on June 2, 2017, aged 89. She was predeceased in 2014 by her husband of 69 years, Lorne, and over the years by her 13 brothers and sisters.

Her beautiful spirit lives on in her loving family. She is survived by her four children:  Maxine (Gordon Watts); Brian (Anne Lester); Judi (Rob Carmichael); Jamie (Ranata).  She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many other family and friends.

Born September 1, 1927 in Ethelbert, Manitoba, Myra taught in a one room school in Minitonas, Manitoba for a short while before marrying Lorne at age 17. They moved to Winnipeg where they lived while Lorne served in the RCAF and later attended the University of Manitoba.

Myra was a wonderful wife, mother, Nana, and friend. She loved curling, golf, knitting, baking (best cinnamon buns ever!), reading, painting, gardening, and singing in United Church choirs.  She was a life-long learner, and at age 50 took up her childhood dream and learned how to fly.  She was a proud member of the 99’s and the Abbotsford Flying Club.  She had her own H & R Block Income Tax franchise in Chilliwack for many years.

During Lorne’s engineering career, the MacLure family lived in many interesting places, including 4 years in Pakistan. In retirement, Myra and Lorne built a beautiful log home at East Gate near Manning Park Resort and they loved living in the mountains.  Their “cabin” was always open to family and friends, and many of our cherished memories of Nana Myra are from those times together.

Since last September, Myra lived at Jackman Manor in Aldergrove. The family wish to thank the staff for their kindness in caring for Myra over these past 9 months.

A celebration of Myra’s life will be held on September 2nd in lieu of her 90th birthday party.  At this time we will honour Myra’s extradorinary legacy of family love and values as well as having fun sharing memories of her life ~ a song well sung.
