Naomi Johnson (Howard)

August 12, 1948 - May 3, 2018

Tribute

Naomi Johnson (née Howard) was a registered nurse in Alberta, British Columbia, London, England, Sydney, Australia, and Perth, Australia. She spent the last fourteen years of her nursing career working at the Sechelt Hospital and at the Vancouver General Hospital.

Naomi was predeceased by her adoptive mother and father, Mary and Leslie Howard, and her in-laws, Marvin and Bernice Johnson. She is survived by her husband Dennis, her children Kim (Stuart), Karen (Kevin), Larry (Stacey), as well as her two grandkids, Griffin and Ella.

She was a devoted fan of mystery television shows, and the books of James Herriot, and those of Zimbabwean writer, Alexander McCall Smith.

Naomi’s shoe collection could put Imelda Marcos to shame, and her drawers full of jewellery and beauty products spoke to her life-long commitment to self-care and her desire to always look and feel her best.

Cats, skiing, diving into Hawaii’s oceans, and world travel with Dennis and friends were among Naomi’s great loves. She travelled her entire life, and visited sixty-six countries. Of those, her favourite destinations were Vietnam, Peru, Greece, Turkey, The Central African Republic, and the river cruises she and Dennis took across the earth.

Naomi loved expansively, and her husband, children, friends, co-workers, and cats took up a great deal of the space in her heart. There was always room to spare, though, for new friends, experiences, rescue cats, and unexplored countries.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that those wishing to make a donation in Naomi’s memory may choose to support their local pet rescue association. In the absence of a local organization, donations may be made to the SPCA.
