Neil Hemming

January 15, 1951 - April 13, 2016

Tribute

Neil’s battle with ALS ended on April 13, 2016 and he has now gone home to be with his Lord and Savior.

Born in Rochdale, England, Neil moved to Ontario, Canada at the young age of 5.  In 1973 he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Dean and moved to Port Alberni, BC. He worked at the Paper Mill as a carpenter there for 33 years.  Neil leaves behind his wife, Donna, daughter Deana (Anders) and their children Arella and Evelyn, and daughter Leanne (Philip) and their children Landon and Jenaya.  Neil had a love for music, travelling, soaking up the sun and for his family.  He could often be found helping others with their home renovation projects or creating gifts in his workshop for his grandkids.  Through his daily life and actions, his love for the Lord shone through him.  While we miss him dearly, we are so thankful that he is now free of his earthly body and rejoice in knowing that he is with Jesus.  A Celebration of Life will be held on May 7, 2016 at 2 pm at First Ave Christian Assembly 46510 First Avenue, Chilliwack, BC.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Society of BC can be made in Neil’s honour.

Donna, Deana, Leanne, and family,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers today as you gather to celebrate a life which was very well lived. Neil knew how to have a good time but something that I will always remember is how he loved to bring people together. He looked for ways to give others joy and loved to include others in the things that brought him enjoyment. I am so thankful for all those camping trips, holidays, pool parties, after church coffee times, and superbowl parties that Neil made sure we were a part of. It always hurts to say goodbye but what an example Neil gave to us all of how to get everything out of life that we possibly can, especially when life throws you a curveball. Even through his ALS he was still able to reach out with that powerful ability of his and make Vanessa feel like she had known your family for years. We wish we could be there with you today to celebrate Neil’s life as he meant so much to us as well. We love you and will continue to pray for you all through the coming weeks and months.
